Dear SFITians, Friends and Well-wishers;
It is said that every great journey in life has always a humble beginning; every great journey- the first step and the stability of every edifice begins with the right placement of the very first brick.
The journey of the Society of the Franciscan Brothers began in Nagpur, India, way back in February, 1901. It was initiated by the Founder, Bro. Paulus Moritz of German origin. He always directed his VISION towards the all-round development of humanity with the greater focus on Education of the poor and the marginalized.
The Society established its head quarters at Mt. Poinsur, Borivali, Mumbai, in the year 1908, when they started an orphanage and a primary school for the orphan and the poor of this city. Today, the Franciscan Brothers have nine institutions in the Mt. Poinsur, Borivali campus alone, besides those in other states in India, and overseas. All this is as a result of the immense trust and co-operation from all our well wishers over the years. Your patronage of yesteryears will always remain in our records.
In 1999 the Society started, “St. Francis Institute of Technology” (SFIT) in the midst of a generous 5 acres of lush verdant settings in the interest of our students. This is notwithstanding the fast disappearing green cover in our island city of Mumbai. The College is approved by AICTE and affiliated to the University of Mumbai and is currently offers three programmes, leading to BE degree.
From its inception, SFIT ranks one among the top six colleges under the University of Mumbai. Our placement record too, is enviable. At present, there are 1356 students.
We believe that it is not enough to merely rest on our past laurels. We should do even more for our youth as the thirst to expand and grow is insatiable.
Our proposed new ventures are:
It is our earnest endeavor as well, to launch a Post Graduation programme in the existing branches in undergraduate courses. This project is overdue and has to be materialized by the next academic year, 2012-13. We have submitted our application to the University of Mumbai and AICTE for necessary approvals. It is a matter of time that we obtain these approvals! From our end we are ready with all the needed infrastructure and academic support.
Therefore, in order to achieve the above targets we are in need of about Rs. 50 corers, for which we appeal to your generosity. Construction of a G+11 building is on, with an area of 20,686.17 sq.mts. It is our hope to have this project completed within 24 months.
Dear Friends, Benefactors and Well-wishers, it is with full confidence and faith that we approach you for your participation in the fulfillment of this dream of ours. We know that as in the past, you will stand by us as architects of the destiny of our youth. The Franciscan Brothers are fully aware of the need for this progress which is urgent and inevitable in order to prepare our youth, our target group; economically challenged but academically bright, to face the “New World Order”.
